Default Radiator question

Having a check under the bonnet of my car today[1995 960 3L auto saloon]when for the first time I noticed a piece of pipe on the radiator. The pipe in question is about 2" long and has a jubilee clip holding it to the stub on the radiator with a further jubilee clip at the other end[presumably holding some kind of blanking plug in?]it's about half way down the radiator on the drivers side of the car[rhd] and points directly towards the bulkhead/rear of the car. It's below the upper gearbox oil cooler pipe but above the lower one.Any ideas what it's for/where a longer pipe might be supposed to connect to?

I really have no idea but will check on Monday where the pipe at the bottom of the header tank goes. The car runs fine as is and there's no loss of coolant just seems strange that there should be this "spare" pipe if indeed it is spare! I've not seen under the bonnet of a 960 before buying this one so I've nothing to compare it against to know what's correct or not.

It is a 940 rad. The 940 rad has that extra pipe that needs blanking off as not used in the 960 as the expansion bottle connects to the engine metal hose

Thanks for that.Puts my mind at ease over whether a previous owner had done some kind of bodge repair to bypass a problem.
