Ratio is 200/1 so 300 ml for 60 litres. I averaged around 50 miles extra per tank, so looking at this price - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-Litre-2...sAAOSw7FRWUiaf - I think it equates to another 50 miles for £1.08, not expensive if you look at it that way, plus the throttle was more responsive. Hope this helps..........

Hi all, quick update on the V70. Voltech had it in for the fuel pump timing last week and when it was returned they said that, as expected, the timing was way out.
This was corrected, however, the mechanic said that the fuel pump sensor needed replacing...problem being, they come as part of the pump and they don’t make them anymore!!! The smoking has undoubtedly improved but it’s still smoking on idle so we’re not sure whether it will get though MOT emissions or not. Has anyone else had this fuel pump/sensor issue? Other than that it’s going to plan, many thanks once more for all comments and feedback, it’s very much appreciated. |

The most common sensor to fail is the needle-lift injector sensor, which happens on most Bosch MSA11 and MSA15 applications. This is used to trim the timing to the last level of precision against the crank-angle sensor, and the flimsy wiring out the top is easy to damage as well, otherwise heat kills these. I managed to get a used spare through a breakers yard on Ebay about 4years ago, but they are also getting thin on the ground. Repair is as simple as swapping the injector over on Cyl.4 with new seating washer.

My mechanic suggested we put the car in for an mot see if it passed emissions and also highlight any potential issues we didn’t know about.
Good news is it passed emissions and no surprises, so, on the advice of my mechanic, I’m going to persist with the pump as the car had been stood for nearly 3 years prior to my purchase, I’m thinking when it’s getting run around daily it might clear a lot of crap in the diesel system and the components may work better, just a theory. Research shows these pumps very rarely fail. Last edited by DrewV70D; Jun 11th, 2019 at 18:07. Reason: Spelling error |

I know these very well... your correct in that they dont fail...
They however are a smoky diesel Full stop... They are worse when lighty driven then booted....The exhaust has the ability to turn day in to night. The beauty of no dpf and a vacuum egr that is most likely jammed fully closed. 2 stage mechanical injection and the bosch.ve pump. Happy smoke screening. |

I am going to go to the local Bosch diesel service centre and have the injectors removed, cleaned and replaced though.
Seen this on another thread and seems like it yields big improvements for a sub £50 job. |

Thanks for the latest update.
Glad to hear it passed on emissions. I'd see how things go as you bring it back into use. If there are no underlying faults my guess is that it will soon clean up. Mine was a little smoky on start-up when I got it going again and it had only stood for 8 months, not 3 years. As Rudi Dudi says, they tend to be worse when lightly driven and then booted. I'm usually lightfooted which means when I do boot it there's usually a spectacular cloud of smoke the first time. The drive to the MoT always involved a few hard accelerations to try and blow the crap out first. It never failed on emissions. Well, actually it did once but I've already told that story! I'd just drive it for the moment. I'll look forward to seeing it around. Martin Last edited by Martin Cox; Jun 11th, 2019 at 19:13. Reason: extra comment added |

Seriously mate don't bother... lot of **** gets written around here regarding these on a regular basis...
If your going to bother removing the injectors you may aswell get new nozzles instead of bothering with a clean. Just drive it ... I've got one of these on 350k and original injectors, turbo , exhaust.. Had it from new. Your car and your money... but an injector clean wont make any difference to your smoky exhaust. Mine smokes the same these days as it did brand new back in November 1999. |

On another note ...Glowplugs only serve to fill a hole on these engines .
These do not need them in any weather.Do not let any mechanic replace them unless you just want to waste money.(mine has zero working ones and has been like that for at least the last 15 years)...I would put money on it that most of yours are knackered aswell. If you ever have starting issues it is allways pump timing . Last edited by rudi dudi; Jun 11th, 2019 at 19:20. Reason: Typo |
