Well, I've finally sussed it out. The problem with the radio (HU803), the cigarette lighter sockets and as it turned out, the headlight height adjusters, were all related to a bad contact on relay 2/30 (see attached thread). This relay board was well buried above the drivers side footwell and was only just accessible enough to get my fingers on it, pull it out and push it cleanly back in.....Hallelujah. Thanks to all for their advice.

Regards to all Volvo drivers

John

Default Radio not working

John hn (Toxopholus) I hope you are reading this as apparently I can only send messages to the Administrator at the moment, so I thought I'd post it here just in case. I'll keep trying the Private messages route as well. Here is my more detailed explanation:-

John
The offending relay is a bit of a bugger to find as it doesn't seem to get much of a mention in any of the numerous threads which I read.
Just to be clear, I am in the UK and therefore talking about a right hand drive, 2004 V70 D5 SE
The relay board is above the drivers side foot-well. If you remove the plastic trim which is just above the three foot pedals and which surrounds the small courtesy light, then you will get slightly better access. The next part requires feats of contortion as you then need to clamber on your back so that your head lies almost on the pedals, looking upwards. You should now see a whole bundle of wires going into the back of a circuit board. On the reverse of the board (nearest the steering column.) you will see a number of relays. On the LHS (nearest the centre of the car) there are I think, about three relays and I think the one we need is the 2nd or 3rd one up. The way to do it is to have someone else switch the radio on and off, or plug something which will make a noise into the 12V socket and just literally work the relays about. This requires small, strong fingers since,as you'll discover, they are only just accessible. You should hear and feel the relay energising anyway. This is almost certainly the cause of your problem and like me you will be very pleased when the radio bursts into life.
This little problem had defeated our local Volvo dealer when the previous owner took it to them.

Let me know how you get on.

Holy thread ressurection Batman!

John, I've been faffing with this for ages with no result, but reading your post again it's a bit confusing...

When you say on the LHS nearest the centre of the car, do you mean on the LHS when I've got my head in the footwell and facing the back of the car (in which case its the RHS which is nearest the centre of the car) or do you mean the LHS when sitting in the drivers seat normally??

Smile Volvo s60 radio & power sockets dead

Hi all. If like me your radio & power sockets don't work and you've checked fuses and they are fine.
Then it is the relay, situated up under drivers footwell.
Remove side cover first next to drivers seat, then the black cover above pedals held by 2 star screws, look up to right off brake pedal and you'll see relay board, you can unclip this and pull it down like I did to get access to relays.
Now the relay you need is on left of board looking in from car on your knees, or if your laying on your back with head at pedals, the on your right.

There are two biggish square black ones one above the other half way up the board, you need the top one, all I did was pull them both out and swap them round, then hey presto let there be music, though I do need to check the other relay now after swapping to make sure it works, but do this another day, been without music for couple of months as was feeling lazy.

By the way the symptoms in the begging we're radio erratic etc/retuning and intermitent operation.
Will take photos of board and relay another day.
Hope this helps those suffering same problem.
Any problems feel free to pm or text call me: 07891596685.
Regards
Jay.

Default Radio not working

My XC70 2007 has similar, no radio, sat nav, power sockets in front, boot power socket is OK.
have checked fuses, waggled relays, been like this for 2 years, all I miss is the power sockets for charging but would like to fix. did you get to the bottom of this?
