Default Whiny hum when turning, when cold

Hi folks

Came across something new yesterday morning and my 1st thoughts was power steering belt?
When i turned the steering wheel, there was a whine like hum noise, once i'd driven a few miles, it went away, is this the power steering belt slipping or?
To be honest, not heard a belt slipping sound like that before, fan belts are more of a high pitched squeal lol

Could it be the power steering pump itself? Have you checked fluid level? With the aid of an assistant start the car-bonnet open- and get assistant to turn steering wheel while you listen to see if you can pinpoint the noise-assuming of course that the noise replicates itself.

The pump was allegedly done prior to collection as there was a leak from it and it looked new...

A bit of whine is ok. Many cars do it.
But yeah as previously mentioned check your fluid level.

Make sure its filled with pentosin chf(green) and not atf (red).
Mine had atf in it when I got it and the pump was weeping and making a whining noise.
I drained it and refilled with pentosin and it's been fine since

Another brand is Pentosin CHF-11S. It's from Germany, fully synthetic Central Hydraulic Fluid. It's pale green. The can is green too!

BONUS SUGGESTION: Get a strong magnet and hang it (via copper wire) in the reservoir. You'll be amazed how much fuzz (metal) it collects.
