My son bought a 3 series BMW for £1000, his colleague needed a new headlight assembly for his Discovery. £1,300!

To answer the question in the title, the answer is no - that would be against st EU law.

Its has to be serviceable by any competent technician, and parts, software etc must be made available to the non franchise aftermarket to allow this.

Thanks for the replies

Agree with the sentiment on bulbs, on our previous 5 series the space between the frame support and the back of the headlight was so tight you had no option but to remove the whole head light to change the bulbs...

I get there may be reasons for some design decisions from an engineering / safety aspect, but I cant see how that apples to the plastic scuttle above the power steering cap... the old design was fine, served both as an inspection hatch and access to the cap... anyway modern cars I guess...

Anyone know the torque setting for the wiper arms?

Thinking about this some more, given how many cars are ‘sold’ on some sort of contract or service plan nowadays, making the servicing more awkward will hurt the dealers more.

Not realy, dealer service is based on book times, if the job is harder the times are longer and the customer pays more.
