Default CD deck replacement

Hi all I have the deck error message for my 6 disc changer, I have the opportunity to replace with either a 6 or single disc deck so 3 questions, can I change for a single disc? is it a straight swap for the 6 or is there any programming required? And is the 6 changer from the V50 the same as the XC90?

you can only fit a 6 cd changer mechanism from a similar year xc90 , you keep your security codes working like that as they are on the main circuit board .. .. changing just the changer unit should be a cheap and easy job ..

NO , that's one of the 8 or 10 coded modules in the audio system . you need to take it apart and get the CD Mechanism out and fit it in the faulty unit .

not that i know of as it's not a common job, certainly not listed in volvo info .
If you are used to taking radios and tape decks apart it might help . It is one unit i believe with a few screws holding the frame in , there will be a few plugs and maybe ribbon cables to remove to allow you to get it out , best practice on the faulty one first :-)

Default Plug and Play

I have replaced the CD player in my 04 xc90 with one that I pulled from a 04 xc90 at a self-service junkyard. Both were 6 disc players and the new one plugged in a played with no problems. Once you pull out the climate control + cd + radio display bundle (two torx 25 screws in front of the gear shift under a little black tray) it will be obvious to you what to do to unbolt the cd player.

Remember there is a different radio system design for early cars (radio receiver in trunk roof, CD changer in dash) and newer cars from about 2006 (radio receiver integrated into CD changer in dashboard)

We don't know what MY you have....
