Default Kwik Fit Quality Rounded Sump plug

Those Geneius at KF have managed to round off my sump plug.

Their suggestion was to find a garage with the kit to pull the oil out the dipstick hole.

Help !

You seriously let KwikFit near a V70 R? Awesome!

To be honest, I'm not sure I'd risk getting them to fix it. I'd prefer to take it to my local Volvo dealer, get them to fix it and then take KF to the small claims court for the costs incurred.

Should still be able to get it out. Any garage where the mechanics knuckles dont drag on the floor as they walk shouldnt really struggle. Hammering on a smaller socket usually does the trick, failing that irwin make special tools for removing rounded bolts.

DO NOT CHANGE OIL THROUGH DIPSTICK TUBE!

Hope that helps

Personally I'd tell KF that I'm going to my local Volvo dealer (and my local one is first class) to get them to do it and that KF will pay the bill or find themselves in the small claims court.

The problem is that I usually get great service from them. I know them extremely well from a previous employment and they always treat me and my partner with the utmost respect. They don't charge me for small jobs and I really don't want to upset this relationship.

Suing them is not an an option, this is a technical thread but many thanks for the input.

you can put a saw cut in the plug and use a wide blade screwdriver if it wont move try using a spanner on the screwdriver for a bit more leverage,if that does not work try a screw extractor, there are spanners which will undo rounded nuts and plugs, hope this helps

Fair points,Jules_V70R in which case I'd just bite the bullet and get my Volvo agent to fix it. At least they will understand what's possible and what's not with the ali sump.

It wont cost much to get it removed. I had a similar issue on my old Saab 9-3 which has an almost identical sump plug. Its more just the case of being able to get under it. My local garage charged me £10 to do it. whoever does it though will obviously then have to change the oil.
