If you need help finding parts in Sweden, drop me a line at mikael.a.fritzing (at) telia.com. I currently have three 164:s and by now know where to find the most parts (no fog lights though). You might also consider joining the Volvo 164 club found at http://www.164club.org/ - through them it is also a lot of part available.

Default Volvo 164 parts

Thanks for this list Mikael - it may be useful when the spares situation completely dries up in the UK. Although I have a couple of breakers to support my two drivers, its always the same things that crop up, like exhaust bits, brake parts and those wretched fog-lights!
I have one pair of mint fog-lights spare (no - they're NOT for sale!) but have offered up the chrome-rimmed lights from a Rover P5 and they look great: that chrome bezel certainly looks far more impressive than that naff plastic ring (which always disintegrates) that they originally came with. On a big-bumper car, which give a more brash look anyway, they finish it off a treat.
Will have to visit Sweden again, and go to those breakers yards with a large van.

Have you got a source for electric fuel pumps for the injection range (both 164 and 140): I hear they are practically extinct in England.

We've got to keep those 164s going - a mighty beast!

At an third-party vendor they still list the fuel pump as available (for 2775 SEK). I don't know if it's the original Bosch version or a replacement. You find them at http://www.mekonomen.se/.

I also have a pair of fog lights that I will have trouble using, since that's when the decay starts... I will try to rechrome a used reflector that I managed to separate from the glass. It seems that the chrome wasn't exactly the highest quality from the beginning.

There were actually chrome bezels available as an option for the 164. They are extremely rare though, I can recall seeing them on one car so far (and I've been looking for over 20 years now). Really makes a difference (especially combined with the chromed headlight bezels).

Hi to all from a new member and 164 owner.

I see from my searches that replacement fog lamps are impossible to find! Would anyone know where I could get some of the chrome panels that would go where the fog lights currently are?

Default Alternative to fog-lights

Welcome to the exclusive and select world of 164 ownership!

The earliest 164s imported into the UK in late 68/early 69 had the fog-light openings plugged with stainless louvred covers a la Jaguar 420G and some 60s Daimlers, but AFAIK they are slightly different in size (not that those come up often either).

The only real Volvo stainless ones I've seen are on my late '68 car, and in case somebody challenges me, it IS a genuine 68 car, which is fully documented as being on the Mayor's fleet in Montrose, Scotland, when new. I also have a late '69 car which had fog-lights from new (again, documented) but on various web-sites I've seen pictures of even mid-70s big-bumpered 164Es having those covers. Therefore I would recommend contacting some of the specialists in the 'States who advertise on ebay, in their international sellers section. I have seen several items on there which will one day be necessary for my fleet - like fuel injection fuel pump, fog-lights (yes!) and sets of injectors, so regularly watch.

Good luck in your search - you've obviously seen earlier mails on this thread so know of some Swedish possibilities. Andy Rowlands, the VOC Volvo 120 registrar, used to have a brand new set of fog-lights for sale - if you have serious cash problems though, don't ask him their value!

So, are these cars as rare as that? Is there a register or anything? Mine is a 1973 one, navy blue with red leather interior (which I need to replace) B30 engine with twin strombergs and auto box.

I only picked it up the other night. The lad that owned it did drive it, but not in a while. When I got it home, I discovered she was overcharging, and had been for a while with some rusting around teh battery box. Luckily (I think) no serious damage. Drives bang on though.

Smile Fog lights

I picked up a pair of Lucas fogs with the rear centre stud many moons ago
For 25p ea yes 25p ea 50p for pair at a school fate in Ealing I got them as they were in good con put them in the garage and forgot about them.10 to 12 years later I bought my 164 and yes no fogs and no blanking plates. But would you beleve it they fitted not orginal but good and sealed beam. when I get a mo I`ll take a piccy of them. they still look good i`ll try and find no`s on them.

That'd be great - sounds like they'd be a good match.

I've had quite a weekend with my new 164. She was overcharging so I got the alternator checked out and a new regulator. Put it in went for a spin and the charging light still coming on dim. Went on to get some petrol. On the way back the fanbelt snapped, I drove on a bit but stopped before she boiled up. Wife called out to tow me home. Pitch dark and when I connected up the rope I snagged it around one of the pipes for bringing the g'box fluid to rad for cooling and pulled it off. Auto box fluid running out on the ground - I was not a happy camper!

So anyway I took the rad out there tonight and very luckily the fitting broke where it had gone into the rad so I was able to get it out with an easy-out and mended the pipe. Got it all back together.

Heres the lucky bit. When I took the rad out, it turns out the top radiator hose was rotten under the jubilee clip. Would have gone at any time. I am lucky also to have a good range of old radiator hoses and got one that fitted AOK. So all is well, after some very worrying times!

Some interesting points: I towed it home in N. Took out the rad and the oil cooler pipe was empty. I checked the auto box oil level and it was off the bottom of the dipstick. It only took a little over a pint to bring it back up. Very little must have run out. Can't really figure out why the old belt snapped. I didn't check it out but it didn't look too bad when refitting the alternator. However there was a bunch of belt material caught under the PAS pump belt. Some frayed bits must have got caught under the PAS belt and got pulled in. What are the chances!
