Default 5th gear is hard to find

Hi all. New here and first post. Great forum thanks.

My C30 is great except it has trouble finding 5th, as in when I shift from 4th to 5th, the lever goes too far across (opposite reverse). It's as of the slot for 5th is somehow missing and I have to be very precise in finding the hole. 6th is fine.

The gearbox itself seems good - just the mechanism is probably broken somewhere external (I hope) to the box. Don't know anything mechanical but hoping it's simple.

Has anybody seen anything similar? Thanks

Many many years ago on a Vauxhall Nova I had issues selecting a certain gear, turns out the when I’d had something on the engine replaced, it was making contact with the gear linkage.

If you can, it would be a good idea to get under the car and follow the linkage to see if it’s hitting anything...this will be a good starting point anyway.

You may have fixed this by now. I had THIS issue with my 6 speed box. It could be a similar problem?
