S40 (New) Electrics : "steering locked turn wheel" car wont start

i have a 2005 volvo s40 2.0 diesel. the car has been working fine with no problems.

I went to get into the car last night, and it would not start. the message said "steering lock, turn wheel". the steering lock was not actually on, and with difficulty the steering wheel can be turned fully from full lock to full lock.

I thought perhaps the battery was running flat, but when checked is running at 12.3v.

i have linked it up to a laptop and the error cose is showing as 3A00.

do you have any ideas what my problem could be?

yes , steering lock needs replacing , the elecric one on the column under the steering wheel called SCL and it will need software to activate it . You are lucky in one way that it stopped working when unlocked , usualy it fails in the locked position . Best get it towed to the dealer .

Hi Clan, sorry to bother you, but I've this on my car, Volvo S80 2009, STEERING LOCK TRY AGAIN. OR TURN STEERING TRY START AGAIN.
it's parked and stuck at my parents. it's won't do nothing. I had this problem in Jan 2017, but after towing the car back home, it's started ok. until Saturday. How can Volvo really do this.

It is probably the steering lock but could be the ignition switch unit .. Try tapping the steering lock on the lower column with a small hammer or a spanner .. That may get it going . Then drive it to the dealer ..
But please do not ignore it again It will pack up for good in the most inconvenient place ..
