Let us know how you get on; I think any information that increases the knowledge as to exactly what needs coding to these cars as against what is a simple "plug and play" is useful for everyone. It seems so random at times... David

Update: the door is working today. Maybe it's because of the rain?
Does this point to it being the a pillar connector? |

So, a belated update.
With the MOT looming in a couple of weeks, I finally got round to attempting to fix the door. I’d had a couple of goes with contact cleaner on the a pillar plug previously but no joy there. Getting the door open was surprisingly easy, pulling the top of the door card away I was able to pull up on the button in the top of the door card, which actually unlocked the door. With the door open removing the rest of the door card was quite easy. Ebay door module fitted.....and nothing. Absolutely nothing at all. So, it could mean it’s the wiring loom. It could mean the new module needs to be coded. Or the new module doesn’t work. I called the local Volvo dealer, who this time couldn’t answer my question about the module needing to be coded and unhelpfully suggested the car needs plugging into a diagnostic machine to work out what’s wrong. I’ll call a local auto electronics place on Monday to see if they can help. |

Final update on this, it’s alive!
After no joy myself, I took the car to an auto electrics place. Having spent a day with them, they couldn’t trace the fault (apparently Volvo limit the wiring diagrams they make available outside the dealer network) but they were also very nice and didn’t charge me. So, off to Volvo it went. I’d already removed the door card (outside their showroom) to save on some labour costs expecting a huge bill. 8 working days later it was fixed, traced to a broken wire in the door. Bill was £220 so not hugely expensive, and all is good again. I really don’t have the energy to take the door apart again to see if the replace, ent module would ever work....maybe an experiment for another day |
