Although I can imagine ST weights less and is probably more "sporty" so is or feels faster, so I can understand this aswell.

I do prefer the STs exhaust and software though, pops as standard and looks better than the hidden straws Volvo fitted on the earlier S40/V50 under the rear bumper. |

I think the difference with the S40 T5 and the ST is that the ST was build to be more aggressive and corner than the S40 that was build for comfort and plodding along. As said they both have the same engine but just build for different purpose.
Much prefer the Volvo hidden look than the standout look of the ST. When the car came out of the garage couple weeks ago they said the mechanic was quite surprised to see a 2.5 under the bonnet. I thought everyone would know about the T5 Volvo's but I guess not.

Problem is, VRT (so tax for registering UK car here) is usually so high that it sometimes become pointless if you consider money, time and some risk taken when buying car from far away. Its like "buy our crappy cars or pay up" :P FunkyMelon - thats odd, would have thought ST on paper would be quicker. I was pretty sure it weight less and would think the engine mapping is a bit more to "sporty" side. agreed that stock exhaust on pre-FL T5s are a bit dull, much more prefer the FL ones.

To the OP - check if the 2004 car has had a cambelt change, with the low miles owners often overlook (or don't realise) that AGE is a factor on the belt, the interval is 10 years/108K miles (think it's 108K ??).
Also has anyone got a video of the sound of a T5 exhaust manifold leak/squeak please? The T5's make for pretty easy ownership, I've had mine nearly 9 years with no real issues.
