Default Gearbox Oil Change

Hello all,

I've been looking into what is involved in changing the gearbox oil on my V50 D2 - D4162T - B6.

Is this the right oil for the job - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Castrol-S...53.m1438.l2649

Is the gearbox oil a serviceable item? I seem to remember reading that it's not necessary to change it.

If it is do-able, is it as easy as removing 2 plugs, draining the oil, then filling back up again with the required amount?

Presuming your car has the MT66 gearbox?

If so that is the correct spec oil, to be honest any 75W-90 will do.

My advice would be to fill the gearbox from the gearbox detent which is a plug with a nipple located just infront of the battery to the left, you'll likely have to disconnect a battery cable to get proper access along with a wobble joint and extension - can't remember the socket size but it's fairly big, maybe 22-24mm?

Anyway the reason why I suggest filling from there is because compared to the actual fill plug on the side of the box it is;
a) easier
b) easier
c) EASIER

This is largely down to access and filling position, I found that you'd only be able to get the fill plug off with a 25mm 3/8th's shallow socket and wobble joint plus extension, there's just too much subframe and driveshaft in the way.

Thanks for the reply Dave.

I think it has that gearbox, need to check Vida as it doesn't state it on the Car Config sheet, only B6.

Will have a look for the area you mention and check out below during the next oil and filter change.
