Road sign speed only for speed limiter?
XC60, just purchased.
I see that the road sign information is only used (if desired) to regulate the limit of the speed limiter. When I am in Cruise Control (including Adaptive) or Pilot Assist, then the reading from the road signs is not used. Can you confirm that? Is there an obvious reason for this that I am missing? It would be nice to have it adapted automatically, especially if the speed limit decreases. I know it's just a few button clicks away with the 5km/h increments, but still... I just paid a ~200 GBP fine for going 41 km/h in a 30 km/h segment here in Zurich, and I really didn't notice the sign on that stretch of the road. |

Speed limit works in conjunction with the speed limiter I've found, but NOT the cruise control.
For example, as you change from a 30mph to 50mph speed limit, the limiter will allow you to increase speed.

Road signs recognition is also used to warn you if you exceed the speed limit in normal driving if you have that set in sensus, you will get a chime sound if you stray above the limit, I find this very useful.

I have decided to turn that off (the sound) because it was annoying. My previous XC60 was reading all the signs with 99% accuracy, while XC90 for to-me-unknown reason fails to read digital END OF SPEED LIMIT signs (grey crossed circle). There are two tunnels I have to cross every day twice, 90kmh limit inside, 130kmh between tunnels and the car thinks I should go all the time 90. Tested in different conditions, my car just ignores those signs.
I suspect that the car takes speed limit info from sensus with a higher priority (or does not read real signs at all) and since there was indeed 90kmh limit between those tunnels for some time (first year after opening), it probably still has that built in. After crossing the 3rd tunnel on my route (it is 10y older tunnel), the end-of-speed-limit sign is correctly recognized and I am "allowed" to go 130 again. Also within cities it sometimes tells me to go 30, while there is no such road sign. But to my surprise, the other day the car correctly read 70kmh speed limit on a digital road sign so it is able to read signs...just often fails to do that or the info is overwritten by internal sensus info. I do not know...I would prefer to switch off any internal road signs and rely just on car-reading info if it was as accurate as my previous XC60.
