Default Spark plugs

Hi all,
After owning my Torslanda for a few months I decided it was time for a light service, so changed oil and filter and ordered a set of BPR6ES plugs from ECP. The oil and filter change didn't make much difference but the plugs that came out were BPR6E units with a grooved electrode...I've never seen those in a Redblock, but didn't think anything of it.

However, the engine is FAR more sprightly with the standard BPR6ES plugs, really punchy and driveable.

Why would the previous BPR6E plugs be used? The car was cammed by the previous owner (it was a courtesy car for an indie Volvo garage for 20+yrs so presumably they had the bits to hand) and the engine, at 125k, has been meticulously maintained and is sweet as a peach. Absolutely lovely car to drive.

Oh I wish I could remember the code from my motor factor days... I bet you can find ngk codes online... The V groove plugs were coded VG on the end, S was quite mundane and fitted to most things. Can tell you the rest I think 😁 B= 21mm hex (BC =16mm Hex) P maybe core, R= resistant core (electrical resistance, to reduce interference) 6= heat value E I think is the threaded length, then theres S...
So BPR6ES, BCPR6ES, BCPR6EVG all essentially same plug but first plug is 21mm hex, second two are 16mm hex, and last plug is V-Groove.

Right, E is thread length as I thought, and S is copper core.
Found a couple if charts, the official ngk chart isnt as clear but included for verification.

Thanks Andy for those details

I've been looking for that. The hotter the running engine as in LPG, colder the plug, right?

I am using 5 at the moment I think 6 would be better

With LPG the standard 6 is fine, I would not be expecting a 5 to cope all too well. I have used 7's with no issues but only worth thinking about on a harder driven engine
