Default Non-Volvo accessory fitting

I have just bought a late-2004 S40 2.4. I have a couple of aftermarket accessories I'd like to fit. I have my Valentine radar detector and also a gps unit.
I know I can festoon the car with wires from the 12v socket, but I'd like to "plumb" them in to look a bit better. I've done this in many cars, but the dash layout of the S40 puts me off
Does anyone know of an easy place around the dash area to pick up a 12v permanent +, a 12v ignition +, and a negative please ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Default Not easy....

Not easy I am afraid. All I can suggest is the back of the cigarette lighter socket for the feeds, but this is not permanent +12V. Radio is not too hard to remove and maybe you could pick up from the multiplug at the back?

Hi,

You may be better off bringin you own feeds through the firewall and if need be having a 3 socket adapter hidden within the dash somewhere.

This way you will have the feed you need and fused too. Hidden aaway and, if need be, easily removable.

Thanks folks.
Yes, the cig. lighter/12v socket supply will probably do fine. On second thoughts I don't really need a permanent +, the ignition/accessory + will do.
I also looked on that really useful (http://vccs.volvocars.se/accessories/ii/search.asp) website today. They keep referring to "remove the negative battery connection before starting work", but I thought that triggered the alarm through it's own backup battery.
Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Thanks again. Hope I can return the help in the future.

try picking up the supplies from the ign key, beleive me the center console and the info centre and the cd changer are easy to remove you just need 1 torx screw and everything comes out with just 5 screws then you can access the ign wiring. i had the car to pieces last saturday looking for wiring for the rti system which to my amazement wasnt there, so i cany even put one of those in my t5

Default centre concole removal

The bit I found difficult was the removal of the black plastic trim around the screen. The key is to poke in the clips with a small screw driver at the edges of the CD slot.
