240 Tailgate Swap

Estate cars:
Is there any reason why a G reg 240 GLT tailgate wouldn't be a relatively straightforward fit on a J reg 240GL?

And while we're at it, can the door lock barrels be changed?

The tailgates are interchangeable; the later cars had a larger rear window glass. I once fitted a late-model tailgate to an X-reg 240 estate after some kind individual lobbed a brick through the glass; it was cheaper to get a tailgate from a breakers than claim on my insurance for a replacement glass.

I think you can swap out the door lock barrels though the tailgate handles might be different so can't say for sure.

It's actually the glass I'm after, really, but as Loki writes, it may be easier to just change the tailgate.

G reg will most likely have the insert glass but not impossible to be the flush fit
J will be flush fit glass.

Note the flush fit glass also has the washer jet on teh tailgate rather than on teh pillar
