I truly admire you for having a go and not giving up easily but sometimes we all have to admit defeat. With the right equipment and the car up on a ramp it would be a relatively easy job to do, therefore, I would ask the garage to do it whilst there for the MOT. That is assuming it is a traditional garage and not one of those quick mot outfits.

I know I am a dinosaur when it comes to oil changes but that plug needs to come out for future changes. That is the only way to guarantee that all the oil has been changed and the flow of warm oil gushing out the drain hole will help to flush any debris lurking on the bottom of the sump.

Yes, having a garage sort it at MoT time in April would be a good idea. It might still be a tricky job, but that will be the garage's problem.

In total I still only got about 4.5 litres out though, including what dropped down with the filter. I'm sure the extractor's tube was at the bottom of the sump and the dipstick was coming out completely clean when I gave up but I thought there should be a bit more. I'm not sure this is encouraging with regards the prospect of long-term extractor use.

Due to slightly over pouring into the funnel I still ended up adding the book figure of 5.5 litres of new oil. After running the engine for a few minutes and letting it sit for 15 minutes, the dipstick reading now comes up to marginally above the top of the hatched area.

---
on the concern over getting Every drop possible out, consider taking the dipstick out, lay it beside the extraction tube and pop a ring of tape/other mark on the tube where the dipstick fits to the dipstick pipe on the car, or 5mm or so past that !
that way you know the extraction tube is as far in as the End of the dipstick ,which is Well past "min level" and you Will be sucking as much as possible out,its how i have mine setup and get near as 5.5l out of my 2 V50s
i take the filler cap off, crack off the oil filter cap before starting with the extractor, dont know if that makes Any diff but 5.5l out (or near as makes no odds)

Edited to add a thought

has anyone yet suggested using a Nut Splitter on the sump bolt
not to Split it, but Wind the chisel tip in , to get a good grip, then use the splitter tool to start turning/break the bolt free ? Yes the head would be ruined post "digging a gouge into it",,but its already Needing to be replaced.

downside, if it fails it will pretty much be "find local garage" and get them to sort it, by whatever means , but its close to that as it sits now
