Default V70R turbo coolant return pipe

Hi,
The old tank needs a coolant pipe.
My 1998 V70R is dripping coolant at the lines at the back of the engine.
I am needing to replace the metal pipe from the turbo that head up and then ali g the back of the block. Part number 1397795.
I am really struggling to source one. I will try FRF Motors next week.
If that fails, does anyone know if there is another pipe I can swap it with or the dimensions/fittings to get one made up?

Any help or thoughts appreciated!

Hi Aaron

I dont know about V70Rs, but on other V70s the hose is a more common failure.

Part nos 6 and 10 on this diagram

But as you say, try FRF.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for the reply.
Thats really helpful to know. The leak is indeed from around the join of 6 and 10. I have the replacement rubber pipe. however, the metal pipe also looks corroded and I don't want to get the old rubber hose off and find the metal one crumbles too. So it might be overkill and over caution!

Hi Aaron,

See what FRF says.

If the pipe is used on models other than V70R you might be able to get a good used one.
I will probably be breaking a 2001 C70 (turbo) soon.

Or maybe take your pipe off, wire brush it, or cut it short, or use a longer piece of hose etc, depends how fussy you want to be.

Steve

No luck with FRF.
Its proving a rather tricky pipe to find.
Skandix site suggests the part is common to most the turbo cars from that era. So that is helpful.
Steve, how soon are you likely to be breaking the c70?

If you can take the existing pipe off for viewing then a hydraulic shop may help:~
They hold stock of all sorts of bends & pipe so an alternative is possible.
Good luck
Bob.

Hi Bob,

I did give the local hydraulic company a shout today and they think they can make it up, so hopefully it will all work. I just need to sort it with the garage (they are not so keen in case there are issues with new pipe fabrication and are stuck with the car).
So in a way, getting an old one to copy is still not a bad option!

Thanks for all the input.

Will be nice to have it sorted and get onto getting the new exhaust.

These shops know what they are doing so you shouldn't have problems with the fitting- I've had pipes made and the end fittings have been reused if difficult to obtain (Older car)

Hope you can get it sorted
Regards Bob.

Well, I am still loosing coolant an hoping that is what is creating the mess down the bottom of the sump but sadly I doubt it!

I had the pipe replicated by a local hydraulic shop. However, they have done it in cupronickel as they could not do the bends in steel.

Will cupronickel be okay with the coolant?

It will outlast the car! - very high copper content with excellent resistance to corrosion.
Any idea yet for the fluid loss.
Regards Bob.
