Where do these mappers get there maps from ??

Are they just tuned files off the kees system? ( i assume so ) which then any mapper could give you the same service..

Id personally want to go to a mapper that knows what they can and cant get out of the car / system instead of just selecting a file and be done with it, Or selecting a file , increasing something a little more then uplaoding it to the car.

I have a mapper near me who will map and RR twice before and after for $250 but again is it a generic map ?, he mapped my 2018 vw T6 transporter, but again hes brought this map off someone else!

I also have the infamous Tim williams on my doorstep , but alas it seems impossible to get hold of him!

Im leaning towards Shem tbh, as i can actually post the ecu to him.. A Local RR session costs $40 near me! false econonmy but hey ho, its either that or drive upto nottingham for an hour +

Some companies build their maps based on the car so its their own map which they can send out in a handheld device for you to update your car. So it isnt specific to your car but it is specific to that engine.

If your mapper buys a map of someoene else for your car, I dont really see whats wrong with that? if someone that has more experience in mapping that car has a base map, for your mapper to then tailor to your car sounds fine to me?

As mentioned, this is just a stage 1 map so you should be fine for whoever. Going further down the road you would defenitly need a custom map and an experienced volvo mapper but that is a completly different kettle of fish.

You main goal will be to improve drivability of the car but also know that if any issues do arise, the garage will not be that hard to get to. Using specialists means not only would you have to go a way to get your car there .... but also they all have massive ques of volvo's waiting for work to be done. Been to both Shem and Tim's and their work is great which is why they are so busy ... but also they struggle for time ... and more so time management.

They are the ones who will be personally flashing the vehicle / providing the map. Not mr bloggs buying someone else's tune which they can't support

But bear in mind I'm still awaiting a fix from last year. I need to re chase Shem up on it
