replacing rear suspension
2004 XC70 D5 awd
Hello to all I am going to convert my xc70 to regular shocks on the back. I cant find nothing on how to change them or what to disassemble. I see videos about the V70 removing just the shock. I guess once taking the lower bolt on the nivomat i guess its old for 2 bolts under the chassis on the top plus one bolt on the top. What not to do is undo the center on...... Any ideas or videos about it? This is the only one i found... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_qFKFgJ7PnM Many Thanks Last edited by Anubisxc70; Aug 10th, 2020 at 17:40. |

Its pretty much the same procedure as doing a front strut assembly except there is no top bearing for the steering. Get the whole back end of the car off the ground which will make it easier to get one side out at a time. You'll obviously need a decent set of spring compressors. I usually play safe and put two sets on each spring. I did this exact job a couple of years back and cannot remember it being too difficult. As you point out, do not undo the top centre nut until the spring is properly compressed. If anything goes wrong at that point then you will be watching (unless its already taken your head off) a spring bouncing around like Zebedee on speed.
