Default Replacing initial Data SIM

Hi,

I'm sure I've seen a thread about this previously but I couldn't find it again, so apologies if I'm repeating an issue.

I'm coming up to the end of my first year with my B4 XC60. Being a boring old fart and quite happy with Radio 2 when driving I see that I've used a whole 3.5 Gb of data out of the 100 GB Vodafone SIM that was originally installed.

Naturally I am not keen to buy another 100GB for another year at a cost of £100.

I'm pretty sure people have recommended buying something like the 24 GB for 24 months data SIM from Three (at less that £45 currently). However, I also note that getting a data SIM 'activated' and working properly can be problematic.

Can anyone advise if/how they have taken this route and how you actually go about activating the new SIM.

Many Thanks

If you have a smart phone that has the ability to act as a wifi hotspot then use that - you can get monthly phone sim with a good data quota, why have two sims running when you can get away with one. The car can be trained to work with the wifi from the phone.

You have to get the phone sim suppliers to compete for your business. The advantage of the phone based WiFi is that you can use it to drive the laptop when you are out and about.

Many thanks for the reply. Interesting suggestion.

Would this work well when my wife is driving the car on her own? i.e. can it switch well between two different hotspots.

Rgds

I do not know, it would be an easy test most phone SIMS have a data quota.
At the moment one can switch between the two phones for normal phone calls - if so I would think it was worth a try.

Thanks for the response.

Not being anywhere near millennials both my wife and I have very low data plans on our phones.

For less than £2 per month I might still be tempted to go the Three data SIM approach if anyone can provide any advice on how to do it. It would likely save me some significant grief if a lack of connectivity caused any problems when my wife was driving.

Many Thanks
