Default Intermittent Engine/G/Box/Traction Problems

Hi all,

V70 D5 185bhp with auto transmission. It keeps intermittently misfiring on cylinder 4 (according to ECM faults stored). But also intermittently the gearbox keeps going into limp mode with Transmission Failure on the dash. The error in the TCM is always invalid data received from Engine Control Module, algorithm based failure and same fault in the BCM (with traction control warning on the dash), but all 3 faults are intermittent. I have tested injector wiring from ECU plug to the injector plug on cylinder 4 and both wires have 0.09 ohms. I have noticed when testing voltage (injector wire to battery earth) I receive Approx 7.5v when running on cylinder 4 & 3 but approx 5.5v on cylinder 5. Is there any reason for this? I’m thinking the Engine ECU has failed. It has a brand new cylinder 4 injector in it. Thanks everyone

I just posted this https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=263547
to the other forum user suffering the same.

I note that one contributor in that thread found he had issues with three injector connections,No's 2,4 & 5.

Might be worth a go before pulling the ECU.

I had this; local Volvo specialist replaced the wire to the injector for a couple of quid and it fixed the problem. Very similar issues, to what you're describing and it was a massive relief to have such a cheap fix for once.
