Engine oil for higher mileage 2.5T V70?

Hi all.

Picked up a MY2005 V70 2.5T a few weeks ago. 150k miles and no history so I started with the assumption it's never been serviced and worked my way through pretty much everything. One of the first jobs was obviously oil and filter. The old oil was black as sin and very thin so I replaced it with the recommended ACEA A5/B5 0W-30. I've only done a few hundred miles since then and the fresh oil is a little darker than I'd like so another change may be on the cards sooner rather than later.

This brings me to my question. Is there any real advantage to deviating from the recommended spec on a higher mileage petrol? Something that may be a little kinder especially on that first thing in the morning start?

Your 0W-30 is as synthetic as we get from common hardware stores. One of the best, unless we want to spend more on Redline or alike oils. Also very detergent so the oil filter will pack up fast and in my experience, the car started to drink oil like crazy for the first 1-2 years, had to check the oil every few days in the beginning. For future reference, for those who want to go synthetic from mineral, I would actually use some patience and start with a mix like 50/50 of synthetic and mineral, This is my experience switching from mineral to synthetic at 100k miles https://youtu.be/IGU-f1MA-VY Don't forget to test the PCV

PS I would not touch the so called 'high mileage' oils, go either real mineral or real synthetic

Cheers oragex. Funnily enough I think I watched a few of your videos prior to joining here. Also came across one or two other members on Youtube. I think it was cheshired5 who introduced me to the delightful taste of old PAS fluid.

I have no reason to believe mineral oil was in there previously but you advise sticking with what I'm already using ie fully synthetic 0W-30? Fair enough.
