V70 185 D5 - loss of boost and power (P023800 P02346 fault)
Morning All,
A surprise start to my commute this morning… no turbo boost! No EML but symptoms very similar to a previous issue in 2020 I had which I cured by replacing the MAP sensor in the lower corner of the engine bay behind the passenger headlight. However, I found my previous thread (link below) and on scanning the car this time the faults are different. https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=309428 The codes today are: ECM-P023800 - turbo/super charger boost sensor A circuit high ECM-P023468 - turbo/super charger overboost condition - algorithm based failures The car is a 2009 185 D5 (with polestar) auto. Any advice where I should start troubleshooting please? I’m presumably looking for a boost leak, intercooler fault, faulty sensor again? I have VIDA so if it’s possible to narrow it down with some tests that would be helpful before I start dismantling…. Thanks, Stu

have you tried clearing and re running just in case its a small glitch ? go to vehicle communications and look at the ecm to see if there is any indications of what has changed in any of the settings

Hi Simmy, yes I tried clearing the faults but the two in my post above immediately reappear. I also tried a short drive around the block after clearing and the lack of boost persists and now the EML is on.
I’ve had a poke about in VIDA and it refers to the ‘charge pressure sensor’, I’m not sure if that’s the same as the MAP (TMAP) sensor I replaced three years ago in the bottom of the intercooler, or a different one? Anyone know? The VIDA parts location diagram doesn’t list it. I’ve added a few more VIDA screenshots here of where it takes me… item 14 on the component diagram looks to be it ‘boost pressure sensor’ but I can’t spot it on the engine? Is it buried in the inlet manifold perhaps? I know on my previous post linked in the original post above, Clan indicated there are three sensors, one in the ECM, one in the manifold and one in the intercooler - is this the middle one? https://imgur.com/a/kmjkFoZ My car is a 58 reg (but 2009 year) 185 D5 single turbo euro 4. Thanks Stu

at a guess
i would think its the combined temp and pressure sensor on the intercooler outlet side near the airfilter side, has just one torx20 screw thats a bit of a fiddle to unscrew.. seem to be a lot of 'compatible' parts avail £20 ish that are from the ford focus st camp..

I think it’s the one on the intercooler, Stu. Worth checking that and giving it a clean, or replace. Check all hoses for for splits. Might also be worth giving the MAF sensor a clean whilst you’re at it (the one near the air box).
The video above, although a similar car, is a euro 5 model and the layout could be different. P023468 - This code can relate to the turbo vanes and/or turbo actuator. If I recall correctly, on the older models (euro 3’s), the turbo actuator was vacuum controlled. Euro 4’s and newer are electronic, I believe. It’s a possibility that the motor for the actuator could be bad.
