Default D5 Injector Problems - Which Cars?

Hello All

Apologies - I'm sure this has been done to death but my searches haven't turned up the answer.

Just joined as I'm looking at an S60 D5 Auto. 53 plate EurIII with 80k miles.

(Recently bought an '07 D5 SE Manual with one owner and 70k for the FiL for £2k and he loves it.)

Now I've read up on these and they seem to be about the best, cost effective diesel mile munchers you can get. I'm aware of the autos fragility but an auto it has to be.

Anyway, came across the dreaded injector problem (or fuel filter problem) and noted it generally affected earlier cars but could be an issue up to '05?

My question is - I've seen mentioned a list of engine/chassis numbers that can identify cars affected but I've never seen such a list anywhere. Is there a way to ID the car I'm looking at?

The problem was 2001/2 so the one you're looking at is highly unlikely to cause a problem.

Even on the problem cars, it was often only one injector which needed replacing, it was just the Volvo stance to change all 5 plus pipework hence the astronomical cost.

My 2002 had one fail at around 165k miles but regardless, I wouldn't let it put me off any early D5.
A minor problem, fixable relatively cheaply.

Thanks CheshireD5

I actually ended up buying a 2006 S80 D5 with 185k on the clock - it was a lot nearer to me than the S60 and drove like a car with 80k on it.

Good to know though as I'll probably end up recommending/buying a D5 for someone else at some point.

Cheers

Buzz
