Default 80 mile battery range, could it arrive on the T8.

If they can get 80 miles range out of the taxi battery why only ~18 out of the XC90 T8. Wonder if it will end up in the T8 or will we all be driving taxi's.

2 completely different technologies , The T8 is a hybrid ie it has a normal petrol engine connected to the front wheels and an electric motor on the rear axle and a battery in the remaining space available .

The taxi is a designed to be pure electric car so has space for a larger battery.
It's engine is NOT connected to the wheels it just runs a generator to help charge the battery or run the electric motor if the car runs out of battery range .

Yes I realise that but it still has an engine and generator under the bonnet as a power source to charge the battery which takes up space the same as the Volvo, the Volvo's must evolve and so must battery technology, it surely cant be long before the battery range improves beyond the dismal present range. The taxi maybe a test bed as well, as volvo are sharing technology with them, they may be sharing theres with volvo.

hopefully the battery in the polestar one will make it to normal Volvo's...for those who have enough cash to buy one anyway!

would love to be able to do a good 50-60 miles in pure electric

That would be lovely and I think it will happen in 2-3 years.
From what I understand, improvements in battery technology will soon see to that.

SHMBO has a Hyundai Ioniq Electric, and this has a theoretical 130miles on battery (110 in practice during the summer), in a saloon car.
You'd be forgiven for thinking the XC90 would have a battery space big enough to accommodate batteries similar in size and capacity to Hyundai's.
The heavier volvo wouldn't manage the 110miles maybe, but possibly 80 or so.
