Default C30 cooling fan running

I have a 2011 C30 D3 [2.0l 5 cylinder] it has a fault where the engine cooling fan runs all the time from engine start up. It does it with the a/c switched off. The engine light has not been on, I am not getting any fault codes.

I have checked the fan control unit is ok, the ECU is commanding the fan to run [disconnecting the purple wire stops it]

The a/c has been re-gassed to correct quantity and I have replaced the ECT sensor - neither had any effect.

On live data the ECT, IAT,MAP and MAF all seem ok, the car runs fine and mpg is fine. I don't know what is causing it to want the fan to run.
I appreciate any help or advise with this.
