240 NOT STARTING !
Help ...
I have a 1992 245 with EZ116k ignition. It stopped running the other day - suddenly. I have checked high tension and low tension electrical systems, battery, fuel, and the ignition amplifier. I suspect it might be the speed sensor (or whatever it is called) that sends a pulse signal from the flywheel (or wherever). Thereore 3 questions ... (a) WHERE IS THE SENSOR .... flywheel, bellhousing, front of engine or rear ? (b) The reading to the ignition amplifier (pin 5) is 0.35volts continous. Would this be consistent wiht this sensor not working. (c) what are the readings that I should be able to get from the sensor (resistance and/or voltage on cranking the engine over) THANK YOU John, Essex |

RE: 240 NOT STARTING !
Hi John,
The same happened to me a few weeks ago on a roundabout in the rush hour. Luckily, the chap behind towed me clear. It turned out to be the rotor arm. I replaced it and the problem was solved. That is, apart from the fact I had been cranking the ignition to try and get going, which put a bit too much fuel in the exhaust...........BANG! on new back box required! So if it is that, be careful! Cheers Kelly |

RE: 240 NOT STARTING !
the sensor on my friends 240 is at the back of the engine right in the centre, you have to lie across the top of the engine to see it,the wire of it comes pretty well straight up to a plug on the bulkhead. You could do worse than check the plug for corrosion first.

RE: 240 NOT STARTING !
I recommend that you take a look here:
http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-90...ng_Hall_Sensor They often fail gradually, first sign is that the engine stops after ca. 20 min of driving, as the sensor gets hot. Or so I am told, anyway.
