driving my volvo
I got a great deal on a volvo 240 dl, 1984 car, but I have never owned a car before and rarely driven a stick shift. Sometimes going into first at a stoplight the motor dies and if I am very easy on the clutch it goes right in.Is this normal? And where is overdrive on the gearshift?

RE: driving my volvo
If the motor slows or stalls when you depress the clutch it could simply be that the idling speed is too low.
The overdrive switch is either a push-button or an older slide switch on the gear knob. But you may not have overdrive at all. Basic models only offered a straight 4-speed. I have never understood the differences between DL, GL, GLE etc, but I have had two otherwise identical cars from almost the same year, one with 4 speed and one with 5 (later variation on the 4 plus overdrive). |
