Maybe it’s old age, but I don’t remember any of this faff. When I got my 3 data sim, I just put it in the car and it worked.

I agree including the age bit. I bought a 12 Gb sim from three, Note the word bought. I put it in and it worked immediately and for the next 12 months. I bought another with the same result. All map and app updates and road reports downloaded over the air with no input from me. Worth every penny.

If its a pay monthly sim, it maybe preactivated?

This pay as you go sim is a right faff.

Also just to update, I have managed to retrieve the text message from car to enable me to log onto the online account.

You can't set a cap limit, like other mobile sims, but it does show your data usage.

Don't bother downloading the three app on your phone, as it won't work unless you have three sim in there too.

If I had to guess, I’d say that the 3 SIM many of us use, is a data only SIM, rather than a calls and data SIM. This may explain why it just works from the get go.

The only issue I have had with it was when I was messing around with the PIN, which I found out I didn’t need to mess with, and locked the SIM. I had to call 3 and get a PUK code, but is was all sorted very quickly. Incidentally, the default PIN is always 0000.

I've just got my V90CC and have ordered this sim. I already use my phones (also 3) data over bluetooth and have even configured the wifi phone hotspot.

Assuming I have my phone with me, will the car automatically use the phone data, or do you have to manually switch between connection methods?

Also is the sim holder in the boot? When I was being shown the car I'm sure the guy said the slot in the dash was for a mobile sim?

If it's not what is it for? EDIT: Just found this: https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=289355

I wonder why they keep telling people it's a sim card slot?

It really is frightening what the salesmen do not know about the product they are selling. The slot in the dash is the temperature sensor for the cabin (one of a number).

Now it's got 2 sims the phone does seem to use a bit more power, even though I'm only using the extra data when travelling for RTTI.

Thanks
Finally managed to get into their online system, it appears they sent the warning text very early. Although the phone thinks I've used 5MB more than them, perhaps that was lost in the setting up / registration phase.

Just purchased one of these 3 pre-loaded Data Sim’s from Amazon - brilliantly easy to start using - just remove the old & drop the new one in and instant connection.
There is NO need what’s so ever to set up an account/activate/setup/etc the Sim, it’s literally ‘Drop’n’go’ .......... assuming you have purchased the pre-loaded data only Sim of course......!!!

I have one of these but not bothered to activate as it all looks too tricky having to the car not using a microsim (can't understand why). Also VOC defaults to PSIM so not sure how useful it really is?

For interest any idea how much data I need to run Spotify in the car? I am in the car for 30 minutes a day and maybe another hour on the weekend if I used Spofity throughout in your experience using my phone sharing data by bluetooth how many gbs are eaten up?

Trying to work out what level of data I need to buy on a phone contract
