This is weird.

I went on the school run just now and didn't touch the dial from the vertical position.

As I parked the car at home...the lights turned off as normal as I switched off the itgnition. I turned the engine on and off again a couple of times to check and it worked every time.

Not sure whats going on but I will put it down to gremlins in the system for the time being. If it starts playing up again I will report back

thanks for your help guys, really appreciate it

no, no sunroof

I took the car to Hallmark Volvo in Stockport last week, they identified that there is a hole with signs of water damage underneath, so it's likely that driving over a puddle, etc causes water to splash onto the CEM causing it to act up until it dries out (which is why it usually sorts itself out after 4 or 5 hours).

They are asking me to book it in for a day where they check the CEM and see if it's faulty/ needs cloning. If it does need cloning/ replacing, that's a 4 or 5 day job.

I might just ask them to fix the hole for now and see how that improves things, I mean all the electrics work just fine right now I'm not sure replacing the CEM is the best option

yes he said it was near the middle of the front wheels. he said from the stains it looks like its been there for a long time

I haven't really driven it much but the showroom I bought it from was in a super rural area way past Leeds/ Bradford so I am guessing it was driven over some rough/ muddy terrain recently, plus last week there were all the rainstorms and snow I am guessing they were a factor too.

I have booked the car in for next Wednesday just to repare the hole and I will see if that fixes the issue.
