Default ECU housing top cover removal

Hi all

I want to remove the ECU housing top cover so I can get at the ECUs on a 1999 V70 10V.

A metal strap crosses over to discourage people from opening the housing. It is held down by a shear screw (986937).

What is the cleanest way to remove that screw? Drill it out? Cut a slot?

BTW I think that strap only exists when an immobiliser system is fitted (which is standard here in the UK, but not everywhere). Maybe that is why none of the US sites make any mention of the shear screw.

Thanks,
Steve

I used a dremel with a thin cutting disc to cut a slot.

Hi Luxobarge

Finally got back to looking at this.

As you said, straightforward to cut a slot with a Dremel.

Thanks
Steve

Hi all,

OK, so now I have removed the shear bolt, how do I remove the strap, so I can get at the ECUs?

Thanks
Steve
