Can anyone tell me when D5`s and D4`s lost their Dip Sticks

Around 2008 - the police spec cars still had a dipstick & there is a kit available if you want to fit one, it's an easy job.

They didn't all disappear, they just became smaller and are referred to as the technicians dipstick...they are at the front of the engine and are grey in colour and if not used regularly are a bugger to remove without skinning your knuckles.

I use mine each month and keep the o-ring clean but lightly oiled to allow easy removal of the dipstick.

The VEA engines (from around late 2013) never had any sort of physical dipstick. But the old 5-cylinder engines (with the technician's dipstick) carried on for some years after this.
