Default C30 1.8 petrol - Firing on less cylinders??

Hello all - my first post so please be gentle!

The problem is sometimes when I start the car, the rev counter only goes up a little way and I can't pull away as nothing happens when I press the accelerator pedal. The engine sounds a bit "bumpy" rather than smooth and quiet. If I sit there for 30 seconds or so it all goes back to normal and I can pull away.

Could it be not firing on all cylinders? Or something else? Otherwise no problems whatsoever.

Thanks in advance
