Default Found a few surprises!!

Evening all

I hope your all keeping safe?

Well, I managed to get under my C30 T5 for the first time today and was greeted with a few surprises. The first being an unplugged wire connector hanging down in front of the oil sump and the second being a oil leak from above the dip stick tube.

Can anybody help with some questions?

- What is this connector and should i be worried about it being unplugged? The wires are green/ cream and black/ cream in colour. I've checked all around the engine and cant find anything to plug it into.

- Is there a known spot for oil to leak from the front of the engine, around the vicinity of the oil dip stick? I know that it might sound stupid asking about the source of an oil leak around an oil outlet but the oil appears to be leaking above the tube from higher up the engine.

Thanks
James

I would check your oil filter housing hasnt leaked, these are common issues on these engines.

Thanks Dom, I know it sounded like a daft question, but starting the search with known 'weak' spots might help me diagnose the problem quicker

There are (was) known issues with the oil filter housing but only on the 'air side' - the breather side. They never actually leaked oil.

These engines are not known to leak oil to be fair, it is possible I guess that whoever did the last oil change was messy with it and spilt it all around that area.

The cable underneath, not to sure. When did you by the car? could possibly be a 02 sensor unplugged? does the car have a cat on it or decatted?

oil @ the front of the block
the oil filter housing
the oil pressure switch/sender

£23.30+vat for the sender (gen volvo)
£207.60 INC vat for the oil filter housing/PVC unit

just had to replace both of mine due to a wet front of block, and many Hours of crawling under to find where from/which one,, said stuff it did both.

oil filter/pvc Can be a DIY , your going to need access under And from the top of car, its a Lot of taking off/moving things to get to it,
the New oil filter/pvc unit comes with the mounting holes UNTAPPED, to its a "do on the bench job" to make sure you cut the threads True to the unit,
one tip, take the bolt From the old one on the car ,use to tap SAME hole on the new one, next,, x4 till done , get the threads in/clean, remove any swarf Before going near the car with the new one to fit

Yes i did both, yes it was Probably only 1 of them ,, but My luck,, which ever one i had done 1st ,, it would have been the other,,

oh and you Will need fresh oil ,,,

Bilt Hamber Surfex HD is a Brilliant degreaser for the clean up of the block /sump/everything else the oil has coated

if you Dont fancy DIY
Benny @ GRN motors in Smethwick ,whom i Highly recommend,
im fussy,, very, i feel totally confidant in GRN + the work they do, reasonable £'s and a Proper Volvo specialist

Thats from the front of mine before replacing the two,, you can see the pcv/oil filter unit and Almost see the oil pressure switch behind the dipstick tube,, so If your wet spot looks similar,,

edit to add
prices from "johnsons of solihull" , when asked both parts were a "next working day to dealer" as well , other dealers May have diff prices , worth trying paul rigby birmingham , there in erdington
