Safety recall for cooling system - R10027

Mine had a replacement intake manifold a while ago during the 'manifold might catch fire' recall and a significant software update was part of that - to generate a warning and shut down affected cylinders if any intake valves became unable to close due to soot build-up - but my cooling system obviously wasn't done as part of that.

If there's anything to see after mine's had the cooling system recall done tomorrow then I'll take a picture and post it here (unless someone beats me to it).

I'm not aware of a stand-alone software update recall.

Awesome cheers matey,.I'm not sire what the software update/recall was, but the car drives a lot better seems.much more reponaive. The service person checked the recall ID for tbe cooling aystem and said it was defo done when the car was in, just not convinced it was.

Had the new bleed pipework fitted this morning. My finger is showing where it connects to the header tank (handy there was already a connection point for it) while the other end runs to the top of the rad on that side...

I've just received two separate recall letters for cooling system bleed and a stand alone software upgrade to ECM for a 'plastic inlet manifold' that may melt and deform.
My car had a EGR fault in April 2019 that cost about £1700 to fix, including a new inlet manifold and software 'upgrade' (ie take away low speed torque).

Two things come to my mind:

Could the fault I had have been caused by the problem that this recall is addressing? If so, should the fix have been free of charge?

Could I only need a stand alone software fix because they know my inlet manifold has already been changed (at my cost)?

Maybe, although the recall for the manifold deformation/fire risk did also include cleaning the EMAP and TMAP sensors. My manifold was not deformed, but the dealer found that the integral 'swirl valves' had become sticky; unfortunately this was outside free replacement under recall, so I had to make a huge fuss to Volvo UK to eventually get a free replacement. I was lucky that the dealer gave me a lot of help in dealing with Volvo.

Was the work done by a main dealer? If so, it's probably worth asking them and then taking it from there.

It will also depend, however, upon how supportive a dealer they are.

I've just had the ECM and bleeder hose recalls done to my 2014 V70 D4 by Volvo Maidenhead, and they were very supportive.

The car also went in with a blocked EGR cooler (which had only just come to light during a service by my local Volvo specialist) and Volvo Maidenhead got Volvo to foot the bill for a replacement. So two recalls done and an expensive problem sorted, all for free.

Not quite sure how your situation will play out, and I doubt that you'd get a full refund, but you do need some clarity and the dealer should be able to provide this if nothing else.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.
