Is there alignment marks on the large gear and the balancer unit for setup? I have not been able to see any setup procedure online to align the mechanism after removal.

The balancer will be timed to the crank, there is normally marking on the gears. I’ve not fit this particular unit but have had balance units out of many other engines. The special tool clan references to earlier in the thread I imagine will be to hold the balance shafts in the correct position as these will be free to rotate as you are trying to fasten it back up. It will be fiddly without the tool but not impossible. Other than this it’s a simple job.

Clan, we have replaced the pistons due to oil consumprion, and now need to reinstall the balancer shaft module. What position does the engine (pistons) need to be in when installing the balancer shaft module, and do you know what the timing tool is? We have figured the 4 holes on the understide of the module all line up to holes in the weighted gears so are confident we can get the balancer shaft in the right position to install, but theres no information on what position the engine itself should be set to. Your help would be much appreciated!

Canary147, rebuilding my XC60 2014 D4, what gap did you set the piston rings to? , I'm using std rings on original pistons.

Should you not be changing the pistons to the modified version with the larger holes?

GrahamBrown1, in a perfect world and if it was a keeper....yeah sure. However, its done 95k and was still clean, the liner cracked, I won't have it that long, maybe 30k'ish. So its std pistons and rings. Just looking for any ring gap spec.
