Question V40 D4 >5yr Service Costs

5th Service just completed and original service plan circa £280 P/A has expired so I asked for a quote for a new one and fell of my chair to be offered 3 years for £1330. It occurs to me that apart from S1, S2 and S3 there is no transparency to what this chunk of change covers. Not only that but have no visibility of what the last £1400 has paid for either.

I keep reading advice about trying Volvo Indy garages, does anybody know of/recommend one in West Sussex? Also do the main dealers vary in price?

Service guy mentioned cost included a big one of £650 but quote also stipulates exclusion of Auxiliary belts, tensioner and timing belt kit - so it’s obviously not a big cost because of timing belts.

Notwithstanding you falling off your chair; assuming £1,330 includes VAT the quote is a smidge over 10 hours labour + VAT. Assuming 2.5 + 2.5 + 5 hours labour on the next three services then there’s dealer-priced parts for 3x cabin filters, plus fuel and air filters +VAT - dealer servicing includes Stupid things like removing the stack behind the rear view mirror and washing the screen where the sensors look through for headlight adjustment and city safety features.

I hate the notion of this cost; but 3x 18,000 miles divided by £1,330 to keep a car in decent condition up to six years life (it’s a “banger’ beyond that point - a separate complaint of mine, for another time) is maybe not so bad versus the staggering cost of depreciation in the first three years?

.....and you get all the software updates included which you won’t elsewhere, plus a nice courtesy car and a valet that would probably cost £40 or more on the high street.
