But my point is..wasn't it only the Marelli ETM's that were crap..?..I thought they stopped using them around 2001.?..or are you saying that whatever they replaced Marelli with, wasn't without it's issues too.?

After reading alot into the etm failures none of it applies to my cAr?

It doesnt idle irratically or stall etc, it idles as nicely as the wifes new nissan.

It is literally a case of the 3500rpm limit and poor cold start thats causing the issues, its almost as if its not feeding enough fuel threw as when i stomp the accelerator it fires up quicker?

Thanks

I think a 2002 non turbo will have a magnetti marelli etm. The non turbo models were fitted with it for a year longer than the turbos. It really doesn't sound like an ETM problem though - certainly not the problems I had when mine needed cleaning.

What is the 3500 rpm limit. Does it lose power then, or just not rev any higher? If it's down on power at hight revs could be something to do with the VVT mechanism, perhaps the solenoid. Would have expected this to throw a code though - at least it did on mine.

hi there

at 3500rpm it sounds like its hitting a rev limiter, physically bouncing off 3500rpm and not proceeding any further.

another turn up for the books today, fired her up 1st time ran beautifully for 10 minutes above 3500rpm, turned her off at tesco, came out after shopping and damn thing playing up again? done it twice so far...

any other theories please? would any of the other codes show any sign of what it needs to have done...

Good news folks

Plugged her in again today and once codes were wiped only 2 codes reappeared:

O2 sensor
Crankshaft position sensor

so hopefully once these are changed the puppy wagon will be ready to cruise the motorway again

LOL...Know what you mean...mine's the other end of the "period"..a late '98 ('99 model year) and I guess one of the very first with the Marelli ETM..but so far so good...it's done 102k on the original ETM and still going ok.
BUT...I guess the inevitable will happen at some point soon.
