Do point the new owner to both the VOC and V3M if they're not already a member. It would be really good to keep tabs on the car.

Given that the nosecone / front panel is pretty much a write-off (from the look of it), do let the new owner know that I have a couple of replacements available.

cheers

James

Hi Mark,

Yes, I do. The really frustrating thing is that "my" replacement nose-cone is even the correct colour for your car, but I've already allocated it to my 343. To be fair, I'd suggest you get the replacement acid dipped and repainted anyway, so that is probably just motivation!

I have a number to choose from. There's the light blue one on the car at the moment, which has a small amount of filler in one corner, but is fundamentally sound, then there is a green one with a small amount of rust (which hasn't perforated the panel yet). I also have a dark blue one which is rust-free, but has been battered around a bit, and will need (at least) a skim of filler to make it straight again. I've only kept it because it's not rusty! I suggest you opt for the green one, or perhaps the light blue one.

I haven't forgotten about your question about the oil temp sensor, by the way...I've just been up to my eyes in it, and it's not a two minute job. The VDO part numbers on the sensor are 801.12.3, but as with the oil pressure sensor, that's not the complete part number. I'll take a look in my VDO catelogue when I get some time. Do remind me!

cheers

James

Foggy, I suggest you take the clean one to a classic restorer, where they'll be able to get the lumps out properly, hammer, then the wheely thing, then a filling of whatever metal it is they apply from sticks with a gas torch. Granted it'll cost more to do originally, but at least it will last.

I could take the dark blue one to Gordon Hunter (of 'Save the Jonazon' thread fame) and have him sort it out while he's doing the rest of my 343...but since my yellow one is both rust-free and straight...I don't think having a pro work on a 'spare' is going to be worth the money. It's lead that they use like filler.

Mark...I'll have to weigh it, but it looks like it may be pretty cheap...sub £10 couriered via a shipping agent. Perhaps we should take this to PM?

Excellent news on the sump plug. The one pictured (here: http://www.machine7.com/product.php?...3262&xSec=1171) looks identical to my genuine one (which came in the box for my factory accessory oil temp gauge kit), but I don't know the sump plug thread size off by heart. M14 x 1.5 sounds believeable.

cheers

James
