Yes, my local dealer had a Inscription with 20" alloys on standard suspension which I test drove for the day on different road surfaces and speed. I was aware of the noise issue so paid particular attention during the test drive and didn't notice anything that was of concern. So much so that we placed an order for one and awaiting confirmation of a delivery date

Guys, congrats on your new order, I'm sure that you will love your new car.
I haven't logged on since I posted my Eeyore post a few months ago.. that some people appreciated!! I did feel compelled to comment as I do have an issue with a irritating, droning, whining noise but it's not coming from my XC90...and I'd like to bring some balance to the debate on this and other threads. I find it hard to believe our respective contributors from Durham (I don't mean you Andy) and Yorkshire are still trying to spoil people's enjoyment of their new cars by continually complaining about the noises coming from their 20" Inscriptions. This particular Northerner has no problems whatsoever with tyre noise (or anything else for that matter) since picking the car up in August. (20" no air). I'm not saying that the alleged problem doesn't exist but these guys continue to vent their spleen at every conceivable opportunity (have they not got anything better to do?) On occasion it seems that this is done in a proactive manner, comparing approaches to sort out the problem which is absolutely fair enough and to be applauded. But the majority of the time it seems to me that they are simply trying to undermine confidence in people like you (and previously me) ordering a new car. I can see no benefit or service in doing that... especially given their overuse of dramatic hyperbole. It seems to me that there are plenty of people on here that have had no problems whatsoever or consider those that claim they do to be a little *sensitive*. So I'd suggest taking things with a pinch of salt. Back in my box now. |

Your response speaks volumes. I had the temerity to have an alternative point of view to you. Ergo that makes me somehow corrupt? Sometimes conspiracies don't exist...I know it makes the world less interesting...(well at least yours anyway).
I'm merely trying to balance out your invective for the benefit of people choosing to buy a new XC90. I don't work in the automotive industry in any shape or form. I've been to my local Volvo dealer three times (there is no dealer in Harrogate btw - it's in Knaresborough), once to test drive an Inscription 20", secondly to order my car and finally to collect it in August. It's the first Volvo we've ever owned and I'm very pleased with it... terribly sorry!! |

I chose to ignore him so as not to keep his silly comments going on the thread, he has no concept of the fact that it is only by people voicing their genuine concerns about their car and printing them on forums like this that make manufacturers take notice and do something about the issues so all benefit from a better car. Manufacturers only react to poor publicity, if we sit back and accept poor products without shouting about it we would end up with a very poor product. And by voicing these concerns and when they are listened too and rectified the company is put in a good light, a win win for all.

Fair dos Neon. BUT I lost a few nights sleep whilst the car was on order worrying about what noise I was going to get from the tyres... entirely due to some of the comments on here, including yours... and then when I got the car I realised it was absolutely fine!
Re the other comment about making loads of noise on a forum so that a manufacturer notices... with all due respect (I'm listening to feedback!) I think that's using a sledgehammer to crack a nut and the disadvantages (putting people off buying a car/ impacting residuals) outweigh what you are trying to achieve - if Volvo haven't listened to a forum thus far then I don't think they are going to start now... especially as I think we have now established it doesn't impact every 20". If you really are that unhappy you need to go down a legal route (which is something I know much more about than selling cars!). At the end of the day it is a £50k+ asset that you aren't happy with. Back to work now. |

I bought the Mk1 Exec model without taking one for a test drive because I had been perfectly happy with my previous XC90 SE model, only to find the ride on 19" wheels not as soft as the 18" ones I was used to, and consequently a bit of a disappointment which at first spoiled my initial impression of this great vehicle. Much the same as some contributors to this forum have found to their obvious annoyance. |
