Just gone through a similar thing replacing a couple of tyres on my V90. The original Pilot Sport 4 VOL tyres that came off had the Michelin Acoustic foam on the inside, the new one's I'd ordered, without the VOL tag, didn't. Can't say I can really tell any difference in cabin noise levels.

Never noticed a "VOL" mark on the originally supplied tires. What I have noticed though is a white mark on the sidewall - and I've been told that this means that they have been factory balanced on the car. Interestingly, over 2 yrs in and nearing 50K kms - and they are still perfectly balanced as on day 1, whereas I had to re-balance my non-factory winter wheels twice in the same period..
