Default New owner, Can you tell me about Manual Boost Controllers?

Hi,

I've just bought a 850 T5 Manual (ex police) for the grand sum of £750!

It's done 176,000 miles and seems in nice condition. Drives really smoothly.

Anway, I drove an S70 T5 Auto and really liked the feel of it, so I would like to get this to similar performance. I'm not concerned about reliability as it's really just a toy.

I've been reading through the forums and it seems like a MBC is a good idea. Would someone be kind enough to send me a link to where I can get one? Cheapest is best, of course!

Also if you happen to have any fitting instructions, that'd be fantastic. My email is JP7152@gmail.com

Thanks in advance.

hes extremely helpful and as far as i know i think his mbc's come with a small instruction a4 sheet. one word of warning though, fit a boost gauge first, otherwise you wont have a clue as to how much boost your running, and also adjust the mbc a little at a time. ive not used a mbc before and prefer the software route, but for your particular application it should be fine, just take it easy these cars are getting old now. also check your intake system for air leaks, cause a manual 850 T5 is 225 and the S70 T5 AUTO is 250 so there shouldnt be huge differences in pull, anyway the boost gauge will let you get an idea if youve got a leak, it should hold about 9 psi. the best boost gauge ive used is the BSR one, there are other cheaper nasty ones (TIM) and some real expensive ones, but i think the BSR is a good balance between price and quality.

i recently bought a doner94 854 T5 145k (750 quid) and thought the same...fun !!!!
i put a boost guage in and wound the wastegate actuator up until it hit the overboost fuel shut off system (15 psi on both my T5's) and then took the actuator back by 180 degrees until i could give it full right toe without hitting the FSO system (13-14 psi).

i ran it like that for the 3months before i dismantled it, and it was running sweet till the end.

be carefull tho... i dont understand it but i read a great deal about bending rods during spikes in boost ect ect.

all i can say with hand on heart is that this has been my method of tuning on my last 5 200hp+ turbo cars and ive not managed to kill any of them.

rover 600 1, saab 9000 2, T5 2, and my last saab took 14psi for 30k before the oil pump let go... no turbo or engine probs @202,000.

if you dont care weather it breaks or not... give it 14 psi however you want and enjoy.... 2nd is craaaaaaazy !!!

Thanks.

Is there a cheaper MBC available?

With the boost gauge, is the device fitted to the car too inaccurate to be used?

Thanks.

as he has an 850 he will have a boost gauge.

the s70 t5 autos and mans are 240 bhp.

the std boost gauges are very accurate, just doesnt have markers on which makes it hard to see exactly what your boosting. but the end of the white is 1 bar/14.7 psi.

Thanks for sending the guide.

Just need to buy the MBC now.

In other threads it says you can get them from as little as £30.

Would anyone happen to have a link to a suitable MBC?

Jp, I've got a brand new Armval MBC you can have for 25 squid inc P&P,

Never had time to fit it on my old 850 T5 (it got written off..!)
And dont need it on my V70R.

Let me know, cheers. DB.
