Default V60 D6 Hybrid keeps charging the battery while driving

Hi guys!

I am a happy owner of a V60 D6 Hybrid for 3 years now. I bought it used and when I bought it, everytime I was driving outside of the city it was charging the battery automatically every 150-300kms. I am talking about "Hybrid" mode not "Save" mode. So every time I would take a trip of ex. 500kms it would charge the battery automatically 2-3 times.

Lately this started happening all the time. The car keeps the battery charged almost all the time. When it stops charging it it will wait for 40-50kms and then it will start charging it again.

Why this is happening? Is it normal? Why it decides to charge the battery on it's own? In the manual I saw that it charges the battery when it cleans the DPF. So I assumed that the DPF is full and cant be cleaned automatically and I went to the mechanic and asked them to clean my DPF filter. They said that it's totally clean and it doesn't need further cleaning!

So do you know what is happening? Should I be worried?

Thanks

I have had mine nearly 5 years and that has not occurred before.I do not believe it is normal and as far as I know there are no settings that enable this apart from the driver use of the save switch. Must impact fuel economy if nothing else.

Does it charge to full or just to 50% when this occurs?

Hey Tober thanks for the feedback. It only charges the battery up to that level that it can be charged with the save button!

So your car was never charging the battery on it's own right? Only when pressing the SAVE button? And yes it has an impact on fuel consumption of course but the dealer insists that the dpf is empty!

What's it charging the battery with?
The engine or the regenerative Braking? or coasting down hill ?
Is the SAVE switch light on when driving ?

Your fuel consumption will tell you if there is anything wrong . Has that changed?

It's charging the battery while on the move the the ICE engine and the high voltage charger (not the small one that charges the small starter battery).

The Save led is not ON of course. The Hybrid led is ON.

The fuel consumption is high of course!

Get a elm327 dongle and Car Scanner Elm Obd2 app will read the soot level in the DPF, the state of charge of the D6 hybrid battery, even the fuel age in the tank. You will see if the DPF regen is on.

"Volvo V60 D6 PHEV" profile should be manually selected in app settings.
