Default LPG filter

Two things: do you need to empty the tank to change the LPG filter on a bigas system?

Secondly, are there any maintenance issues on the vapouriser? Anything to clean etc?

Quick answer would be wonderful!

The main gas supply is cut off when you turn ignition off , so the filter on the thick output pipe is easily changed , If you do it just after you turn off the engine you may get a puff of gas but its ok . If it is working ok the vapouriser should be ok . The pressure difference is checked on each service though .

Just close the manual valve on teh tank

Drain the heavy ends in vapouriser if the gas outlet is not right at the bottom

Don't know with this system. Suck it and see. I'm assuming you're talking the LP side?

Ease the hose off and I should have thought the gas valve will have shut it down. So if it's still gunning at you after more than 3-4 secs clearly thsi has not happened. Put it back on again and rethink. Else march forward. Just don't have a fag on teh go. Might get more entertaining than you bargained for.

HP side might take more thought, but the same trick can apply. I'm sure 'classic' (the pro on here) will be along in mo' and scold me for my barnyard mechanics...

Default Talking to myself here...

But Tinley tech supplied me an answer so I'll post it verbatim:

You do not need to empty the tank to change the filter - make sure solenoids are de-energised then carefully slacken pipe fitting in a well ventilated area, this will release pressure from the pipe/filter solenoid unit. Filter is unlikely to cause poor idle, you can check the drain plug at bottom of vapouriser - remove when warm to drain any 'heavy ends' - an oily smelly by product of gas vapourisation, will only have an effect if there is a lot inside. If not, check for air leaks/mixture adjustment/damage to vapouriser main diaphragm.

Well there you are then. If you think about it, you answer was in the question. There's alwasy going to be a control valve / soelnoid in there somewhere. So proceed however unlikley assuming it's faulty, and all will be good. LP side and LPG too, rather than CNG, and frankly those things run at aerosol-can pressures, so you've got to be trying to do something stupid or be a half-wit before you get into real trouble.

No 'gasper' on, you'll be working in a well ventilated area... course you will.
