Smile 165 update

Hi all, just a quick note. The Volvo club of Victoria had their monthly meeting last night and the guest speaker was John Ousey [a BLOODY pom as he called himself ] who was the quality inspector and ADR specs man at Volvo Clayton when Volvos started to be assembled in Aus. He was the man who oversaw the 165 project from start to finish and then had to come up with answers to Volvo Sweden as to why 2 body kits had disappeared [he very quickly handballed that to the MD of the time to sort out ]
It was a very infomative night as he had also spent time at the Rootes group as well as Mercedes before seeing the light and joined Volvo.
Attached is a photo of John and myself, i'm on the right in case your wondering regards John

Default 165 update

Ok the 1/4 panel is postion on the car after all the grafting, because using a 245 panel we had to swap over a section for the fuel filler see photos. Fitted the 1/4 on to the car placing the doors insitu to obtain all the correct gaps we realised that the front edge of the 1/4 on a 245 is sloped not stepped like a 145 see photos so a little bit of extra work was required. We will fit tailgate up and then procede to spot weld the 1/4 on making sure every thing is primed and seam sealered beforehand. regards John.

Smile 165 update

Hi all merry Christmas and a happy new year to you all, and we won't talk about the cricket. Getting on to more things interesting the left side of the car is taking shape, its more or less a carbon copy of the right side, same rust spots, its amazing they didnt really do much galvanising on this car at all, maybe because it was a prototype it wasnt worth spending the bucks on it but i'm fixing that now and it will be better than when it left the factory.
PS thanks for the post about those fog lights they are great l got a set ready to bolt on.
More photos attached regards John

Hi John I have been following this project for some time and it's just fantastic,I here you have several cars like some of us(it's incurable)but yours tend to be rare models whereas mine are just cheap standard models saved from the crusher.Any chance you could do a photo shoot so we can all drool over your unique collection you have.
Yours gratefully Brian.
