OK... this is why I read these forums, sound advice, not so many sound opinions but they make me chuckle anyway and at least I have the choice to ignore them or not (not this thread - others in the general areas!)

Anyway on New Years eve, driving car on normal road, slowed to allow oncoming traffic through a slight restriction, the car died again (it dips below 500rpm!) and so I had heavy brakes and steering... there was time and room to get it restarted but its un-nerving.

The Sat Nav is re-emerging from the dash, maybe it was just a very damp day, maybe it was hibernating maybe it wa tired and wanting an update (no way am I paying £200 for a DVD, 5 years old maps are just fine). But on its own its not something that would make me get rid of the car.

I will book car in for general diagnostic (software updates... is the damn thing made by Microsoft? Do I need to get monthly patches!) and possible auto fluid change, is £100 realistic for a fluid change? I'd be happy to pay if it sorts out the cut-out problem.

Will phone dealer later to get "QUOTE"

thanks again to you all..... Happy New Year !

Hi, My previous V70SE of 2002 vintage(in 2005) also started cutting out after going up hill to roundabout or uphill to T junction. This required new ECU @ approx £850 to fix-luckily it was under warranty. Worth checking your warranty to see if it covers electronics-the Volvo used car one does. Hope yours is simpler than that!

Ummm new ECU? I have an insurance warranty but not sure what the options are, I'm off work tomorrow so I'll be phoning warranty company and volvo dealer to see what my next step will be... hoping that diagnostic work will be carried out as part of warranty but who knows? New ECU = trade in car if warranty does not cover it!

Hopefully I get some answers in the next week or so, cutting out so far has always been in a safe situation, I'll point out to warranty company that if they refuse and it happens again in a situation that cuases a crash, then I'll be coming back to them via solicitors, esp if they "record calls"... maybe I'll record the call too... so they know I'm serious (of course I'll tell them at the time, so its all nice & legal!)
