Default whistling rattle

Hi

Can anyone shed any light on this please little problem

Just been to N Wales and on the return the front left side has developed a whistling rattle,

It increases with speed and disappears when stopped
Sounds like something is loose but cannot see anything on inspection
Has to be something that rotates but what

Any ideas on this please as the second driver (OH) ayatollah is screaming its loud

Default The whistling

The other half says it now a rubbing sound and not whistling ,
being deaf I could not hear it
On inspection I am now sure it is the brake pad that was sticking
Discs were wet with the rain and heat all combined to the problem
Checked and driven this morning no more sound so will change the pads and also consider the discs at the same time

Regards

Could be the brake disc backing plate has rusted away and is rubbing against the disc, I had a similar problem a couple months ago on my v70 and I discovered it was the plate, on the other hand if your backing plates are still attached it could be a small stone trapped between the disc and the plate if the noise is speed dependent

Thank you so much for that

In a brake pad is sticking, its not usually an actual problem with the brake pad itself.

Check that the slide pins are clean and moving freely

Check the condition of the piston boot

Lubricate with brake grease the surfaces where the brake pads slide in the clips and also the backing plates of the pads where they touch on the piston or the bracket

Same with the disc, unless it has a deep groove that is catching on the pad, it is unlikely to be a problem
