Default what diesel engines in the s40?

Hello all,I've been a vauxhall owner for the past 6 years but am on the verge of buying a Y plate s40 diesel to replace my old cavalier,I like the car alot even though the mileage is high but remember somebody telling me once that theres more than one type of deisel engine fitted and ones better than the other? Any advice greatly recieved and any other things to look out for would be excellent. Thanks in advance

Found a pic on ebay of an identical engine, says "volvo direct injection" on the engine cover

I have a W reg late series 1 with the D4192T2 engine which is the less popular one. I think it was only fitted for about 18 months (1999 - 2000) so yours should be the later, more powerful & quieter engine. I think there were 2 power versions of the later engine, from memory I think they are 105 & 115 bhp (mine is a miserable 90 bhp !). There should be a sticker on the cam belt cover that should tell you what version of the engine it has.

My oil filler cap is also in a different place than the one pictured. My engine was built by Renault.

A search of the forums should be able to give you much more detailed info.

I too changed from a Vauxhall, the drop of 60 bhp from my old Calibra has certainly slowed me down.

Good luck with your potential purchase.

Cheers

d4192t3 power rating of 85kw and has 115 bhp
d4192t4 power rating of 75kw and has 102 bhp.

Thanks for both the above replies,I should be going back either later on or tommorow to drive the car and see what happens from there,Interesting to see the mmt6 gearbox listed there on the later s40.
